Hey, my cocktail lovers! Get ready to elevate your next festive get-together with the tantalizing flavors of this Spicy Pomegranate Margarita. This crafted cocktail is sure to infuse your holiday celebrations with an extra touch of spice and cheer! I call this one The Peppa Pom.

Spicy pomegranate martini in a glass rimmed with salt, filled with ice. It is garnished with a dehydrated lime wedge, jalapeno slice and pomegranates.

This vibrant margarita combines the sweet, tart flavor of pomegranate juice, zesty lime, orange liqueur, tequila, and a hint of smooth jalapeno simple syrup. I like to add some extra bubbly and splash with seltzer or soda water. But if you like a little extra booziness, skip the splash! As I always say in my cocktail posts, there are no judgments at the cabin!

It’s the ideal signature cocktail for any celebration.  Pair it with my irresistible risotto balls, crispy turkey wontons, or ahi tuna appetizer, and your peeps will feel festive and fabulous in no time! So, let’s shake things up!

Ingredients for a Spicy Pomegranate Margarita

Spicy Pomegranate Margarita ingredients pictured with text.
  • Silver Tequila – Choose a high-quality silver tequila for a smooth base.
  • Pomegranate Juice – Primarily sweet with a refreshing tartness that adds depth and brightness to this cocktail.
  • Orange Liqueur: I prefer Cointreau in this recipe. It’s a premium orange liqueur known for its smooth, balanced flavor and refined quality. You can also substitute Triple Sec.
  • Jalapeno Syrup – Super easy homemade syrup is used in this recipe—heat one cup of water, one cup of sugar, and one large sliced jalapeno pepper. My Hibiscus Simple Syrup post has a more detailed recipe description. But if you must use store-bought, you can find jalapeno simple syrup on Amazon.
  • Lime juice – Freshly squeezed, please. Adds that citrusy profile.
  • Seltzer – To top it off for some fizz.

How to Make a Spicy Pomegranate Margarita

This spicy pomegranate margarita is not only delicious but a cinch to make. Ready, my friends?

First, fill your favorite cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Then, combine the tequila, pomegranate juice, orange liqueur, jalapeno simple syrup, and freshly squeezed lime juice in the shaker. And shake, shake, shake!

If you’re a salty kinda gal or guy, salt the rim of your glass before you strain the mixture. Take a lime wedge and moisten the rim of the glass, then dip the rim into margarita salt.

For an extra touch, garnish with a slice of jalapeno, sprinkle with some pomegranate seeds, and throw in a lime wedge. If you really want to wow your pals, have some dehydrated fruit slices on hand to take the cocktail to the next level.

Variations of The Peppa Pom

Adjust to Your Taste

  • Add more jalapeno simple syrup to add a bit more spice and sweetness.
  • More bubbles? Instead of topping it with seltzer, try filling the glass halfway with the margarita mixture, then filling the rest with seltzer and giving it a little stir.
  • Instead of salt, rim the glass with something sweet, such as pomegranate sugar or habanero honey. The rimmer possibilities are endless!

Make it a Mocktail

  • Omit the tequila and orange liqueur. Combine pomegranate juice, jalapeno simple syrup, and lime juice in your shaker. Shake and strain into your cocktail glass, filling it halfway. Fill the rest with seltzer.

Use Infused Tequila

  • Infused tequila can enhance the cocktail’s flavor profile. Try coconut, tropical mango, or passion fruit tequila; if you crave even more spice, try jalapeno-infused tequila.

Garnish for the Season

  • Winter: use pomegranate seeds and or rosemary sprigs.
  • Spring/Summer: garnish with lime wedges and mint leaves.
  • Fall: add dehydrated oranges to give the cocktail a festive fall look.

FAQ

Can I use Gold Tequila or Reposado for this cocktail recipe?

You can, but note that it will change the recipe’s flavor profile. Silver tequila (Blanco) has a bright and bold agave flavor, often with citrus and herbal notes, making it the perfect tequila to pair with margaritas. Reposado has a deep, smooth, rich flavor profile, best enjoyed neat or on the rocks. Gold tequila often varies and lacks the complexity of higher-end types but is usually more affordable.

Can I make this cocktail ahead of time?

Yes! Just add the ingredients to the shaker. NO ICE! We certainly don’t want to dilute this sipper! Before serving, add the ice to the shaker, shake, and pour!

Can I make a batch of the spicy pomegranate margarita?

Sure! Instead of ounces, measure in cups and put them into a pitcher. Adjust the lime juice to your liking. Once poured into your ice-filled glass, add seltzer.

“How do I dehydrate fruit to use as a garnish for cocktails?”

Easy peasy! If your air fryer has a dehydrate feature, cut any citrus fruit into thin slices and place them in the fryer. Then, hit the dehydrate button. It does all the work for you, so there’s no need to watch the clock. When the fruit is dehydrated, the process will end automatically.
