Italy is on my mind (and on my travel itinerary). This spring, my family and I are jetting off to the land of pasta, wine, and the true pros of aperitivo hour. Something my peeps and I know a thing or two about. (No judgments, right?)

While I count down the days, I might as well craft up something delicious and channel those Italian vibes early.

This Limoncello Spritz Recipe takes the classic and gives it a creamy touch, with a little extra punch of lemon.

Coconut cream makes it silky and smooth, and oh so frothy. I added lemon to the simple syrup because we’re leaning all the way into the citrus here. It adds just a little more citrus and a touch more sweetness, without making your lips pucker. And, of course, Prosecco brings the sparkle.

I’ll be sipping and eating my way through Italy, all in the name of ‘research.’ New flavors, new ideas, and hopefully some recipe inspiration to bring back for you. But for now, let’s mix up something delicious.

Limoncello Spritz Recipe Ingredients

  • Limoncello – The golden nectar of Italy. Sweet, citrusy, and a little dangerous in the best way. I’ll update with my favorite when I return, but for now, be your own boss!
  • Lemon simple syrup – Homemade is best! Adds extra citrus and just the right amount of sweetness. If you’re just not into crafting a super simple, super affordable lemon infusion than Amazon is your answer.
  • Coconut cream – It can look a little unappealing straight from the can, but I promise it adds a velvety smoothness to the cocktail. If it’s extra chunky, stir it up in a separate glass first or warm it slightly to loosen it up before adding it into the cocktail shaker.
  • Prosecco – If you’re feeling fancy, Champagne works too—both bring the sparkle!

How to Make This Limoncello Spritz Recipe

Lemon Simple Syrup

Start with the syrup. It’s easy to make and adds the perfect balance of citrus and sweetness. Just combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan, heat until dissolved, then stir in 4-5 fresh lemon slices. Simmer for about 5 minutes, and then let it sit and steep for about 15 minutes.

Let it cool, and you’ve got liquid gold. Store it in the fridge for up to two weeks, ready for cocktails on demand. You can check out my detailed hibiscus simple syrup post for a full breakdown or grab the quick version from the recipe card.

Mixing the Cocktail

Fill your favorite cocktail glass with ice, pour the mixture from the shaker, and then top with the bubbles, Give it a little stir.

Don’t forget your favorite garnishes. Cin. Cin!

Let’s Talk About Dressing Up This Italian Beauty

A great cocktail is all about the details, and garnishes are the final flourish that takes your Limoncello Spritz from “yum” to “wow.” Dress it up your way:

  • Lemon twist – Classic, simple, and oh-so-chic.
  • Coconut rim – A coconut rim is the perfect garnish for those backyard soirées, but be warned—it can get messy. One minute you’re feeling fancy, the next you’re wearing coconut like confetti. To rim your glass, moisten the rim with a lemon wedge then roll it in the coconut. Give it a gentle tap to shake off the excess, and you’re good to go!
  • Fresh mint sprig – Adds a pop of color and a hint of freshness.
  • Edible flowers – Perfect when handing one over to Mom for that Mother’s Day sip. And if you’re wondering where to find these garnishes, check your local market or specialty stores for fresh, fun options.
  • Dehydrated lemon wheel – Extra fancy, extra easy.

FAQ About This Limoncello Spritz Recipe

What is Limoncello Spritz?

A Limoncello Spritz is a classic Italian cocktail made with Limoncello, Prosecco, and a splash of soda water. It originates from the Amalfi Coast, where Limoncello is famously produced. This version adds a creamy twist with coconut cream for a smooth, luxurious sip.

What’s the best Limoncello to use?

Look for an authentic Italian Limoncello made with real lemon peels and no artificial flavors. Homemade is always a great option if you’re up for it. Maybe I’ll have that recipe when I get back from Italy!

Can I make this without alcohol?

Absolutely! Just leave out the Limoncello. Technically, we’ll have to call the cocktail something else since the Limoncello has been left out. Ehhh, still call it Limoncello Spritz. The key is to make sure you leave in the lemon simple syrup. Oh, and use sparkling water instead of the Prosecco.

What food pairs well with this cocktail?

This cocktail pairs perfectly with light appetizers like salads, seafood, or cheese boards. Pair it with my whipped feta dip or mahi mahi bites, or make it an Italian night with my Sicilian stuffed artichoke.

Raise Your Glass

When my Italian dad raised his glass, he’d always say, ‘Cheers to health, because everything else is bulls**t.’ So now it’s your turn. Grab your glass, give it a little clink-clink, and say it loud, Alla salute!

And if you really want to embrace the Italian spirit, throw in a dramatic hand gesture for good measure. Just maybe clear the table first, unless you want to recreate one of my signature disasters.
