Ingredients

- Brown Sugar – Adds sweetness with a deeper, caramel-like flavor. It also enhances the syrup’s richness, making it more complex than regular sugar.
- Water – The base of the syrup. It helps dissolve the sugars and allows for easy mixing with the other ingredients.
- Fresh Ginger – Provides a bright, spicy kick that is the hallmark of gingerbread. Fresh ginger is key to this syrup; ground ginger won’t work.
- Molasses – Adds an earthy sweetness. It’s the key ingredient in traditional gingerbread, giving it that classic taste and color.
- Nutmeg – An aromatic spice that adds warmth and depth.
- Cinnamon Sticks – These are a warm, sweet spice synonymous with the holiday season. Using whole sticks allows for a more nuanced flavor as they are infused gradually.
- Whole Cloves – Provide a warm, slightly peppery note that enhances the syrup’s spiciness. Cloves are potent, so a little goes a long way.
- Cardamom – Adds a unique, fragrant spice with hints of floral and citrus notes.
