This Cranberry Gin Cocktail is as festive as it gets. The cranberry and lemon give it that cheerful pucker, while ginger syrup adds a little warmth and spice. Then comes the fun part. A frothy, fizzy top that feels like a celebration in every sip.

It’s that time of year when the weather can’t quite make up its mind, and the holidays start creeping into my thoughts. I’m already thinking about my holiday favorites that make an appearance year after year, because my peeps would revolt if they didn’t. My cozy bite-sized Risotto Balls, and my elevated Ahi Tuna Appetizer, I break out for special occasions. And of course, a signature sip to kick things off. This year, a frothy cranberry gin cocktail is taking the spotlight.

Why You’ll Love This Cocktail

Because every holiday needs a signature sip, the Merry Maker is festive without being fussy. It’s crisp from the cranberry and lemon, smoothed out by the ginger and that frothy top. Light enough to enjoy before dinner, but still feels special when you’re winding down by the fire. And, that color? It’s pure holiday magic in a glass.

It All Starts with a Tree (and a Cocktail)

A few years back, the wonderful people in Narrowsburg decided our little town needed a holiday tree lighting. The tree’s maybe six feet tall, give or take, but it’s perfect. Over the years, Main Street has turned into a full-blown Dickens village. Hot cocoa. Warm cookies. Clydesdales clopping up the street. Holiday music drifting through the air. Pure wonderland.

I had to have my crew at the cabin to experience it, and now it’s become a must-do weekend every December. Before we bundle up and head out, I always mix up a signature sip to set the mood. This year, it’s The Merry Maker. Fun, festive, and a total crowd-pleaser.

Cranberry Gin Cocktail Ingredients

All the ingredients in a cranberry gin cocktail on a wooden surface with white text, with the name of the ingredient , next to each.
  • Cranberry juice: Don’t go for the light stuff; it’ll water down both the flavor and the color. You want that bold, tart cranberry punch that gives this cocktail its festive hue.
  • Gin: Use your favorite here. I love Hendrick’s; my friends at Shay’s turned me on to it a while back, and it truly makes all the difference in a great cocktail.
  • Ginger simple syrup: You could use plain simple syrup, but the hint of ginger adds a subtle warmth that plays perfectly with the cranberry. I’ve got a quick version in the recipe card, or check out my Hibiscus Simple Syrup post for all the syrup-making details.
  • Lemon juice: Fresh. Always fresh. Don’t even look at the bottled stuff. It won’t give you that bright, clean flavor you need here.
  • Egg white: This is what gives the cocktail that beautiful frothy finish that makes it feel special. If raw egg isn’t your thing, you can swap in aquafaba (yep, the liquid from chickpeas, I talk about it in my Hummus post), or try Fee Foam from Amazon. It’s a lifesaver when you’re making these for a crowd and don’t want to crack a dozen eggs mid-party.
  • Ginger beer: To top. The final touch adds a little sparkle and spice. I love Fever-Tree or Goslings. Both have that clean, snappy ginger bite that ties everything together beautifully.

How to Make This Cranberry Gin Cocktail

This one couldn’t be easier. Pour your cranberry juice, gin, ginger simple syrup, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and egg white into a cocktail shaker. Fill it with ice and shake like you mean it, a good 10 seconds or so until it’s nice and frothy.

Strain into your favorite coupe glass, top with a splash of ginger beer, and garnish with a few cranberries, maybe a slice of candied ginger? Then sip, smile, and try not to drink it faster than you can make the next one. Watch the video to see how easy…

Garnish & Hosting Tips for Your Holiday Cocktail

  • Frosted cranberries and rosemary: Just run your cranberries or rosemary under water, toss them into a zip-top bag with a little sugar, and shake it up. Pop the bag in the freezer for a bit, then plop them into your cocktail when you’re ready to serve. They freeze up into the prettiest, sparkliest little ice balls.

  • Sugared rim: I love a sugared rim on this one (see my Winter Martini recipe for the deets). It adds a little extra sweetness and sparkle. You can find all kinds of fun rim sugars from Snowy River on Amazon.
  • Candied ginger: Adds a pop of spice, and who doesn’t love a little more sweetness in their cocktail? Thread a few pieces on a cocktail pick for a simple, eye-catching garnish.
  • Fresh citrus: A thin slice of lemon, a twist of lemon peel, or even a dried orange wheel all add brightness and color.
  • Extra festive touch: Drop in a sprig of rosemary or a few cranberries right before serving; they float beautifully and give that “holiday cocktail” vibe in every glass.

Hosting tip: Set up a small “garnish bar” so guests can decorate their own cocktails. It’s interactive, fun, and takes the pressure off you once the shaking begins.

Make it your own

One of the best things about this cranberry gin cocktail is how easy it is to mix up your own twist. It’s festive, flexible, and perfect for experimenting with new holiday gin drink ideas, or just using what you already have on hand.

  • Switch up the spirit: Not a gin fan? Vodka works beautifully here too.
  • Add a fruity twist: Swap the cranberry juice for pomegranate. It’s a simple way to turn this into one of your go-to winter cocktail recipes.
  • Try it without the egg white: For a lighter, fizzier sip, skip the egg white and serve it more like a cranberry gin spritz.
  • Batch it for parties: This one’s a crowd-pleaser, and you can easily scale it up in a pitcher. Just skip the egg whites (or use Fee Foam), then shake or stir individual servings before topping with ginger beer.

There’s no wrong way to shake up The Merry Maker; half the fun is finding your favorite version.

Cranberry Gin Cocktail Q&A

Can I make this cranberry gin cocktail ahead of time?

You can mix the cranberry juice, gin, ginger simple syrup, and lemon juice a few hours before serving, keep it chilled in the fridge. When you’re ready, add the egg white and shake it fresh for that frothy top. Then top with ginger beer.

Are raw egg whites safe to consume in a cocktail?

If you’re using fresh, high-quality eggs, the risk is very low, especially when the alcohol and citrus are involved. But if you’re unsure, look for pasteurized egg whites (they’re heat-treated to kill bacteria and perfect for cocktails). Or stick with Fee Foam for a completely safe, no-crack option.

Can I turn this into a mocktail?

Sure can. Leave out the gin and use sparkling water or extra ginger beer instead. You’ll still get that tart cranberry and spicy ginger combo. It’s festive, refreshing, and perfect for anyone skipping the booze.
